Three Levels of Faith

One day, the Angel Jibril appeared as a man to the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (P) and his companions in the mosque in Medina. The encounter became a very well-known hadith narrated by the Second Caliph, ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

Jibril asked the Messenger of Allah five questions about the meaning of Islam, Iman, Ihsan, the Hour, and the Hour signs. As the Messenger of Allah answered each question, Jibril complimented him saying that he told the truth. When Jibril left, the Messenger of Allah told his companion, who did not know the man, that he was Jibril, who came to teach them their religion.

Thus, according to the mentioned hadith there are three levels of faith a person can attain, which are Islam, Iman and Ihsan.
